From LB Jewelry Designs to Laura B. Smith Jewelry
I grew up in San Antonio with both of my grandmothers nearby. They let me explore their jewelry boxes, hold the pieces up to the light, and ask questions. Where did this come from? Why did you choose it? I loved the gemstones, but I loved hearing their answers just as much.
I came to jewelry design through my work in public relations. I enjoyed hearing people’s stories and helping them share those stories. One of my clients was a Dallas jeweler, and I had the chance to design pieces of my own and see them made. That experience led me to start LB Jewelry Designs in 2015.
Travel has always been a pleasure for me. Montecito, Capri, Amalfi, and Ibiza are among the places I’ve loved visiting, so I named my four collections for them. The colors and memories I brought home often come to mind when I’m choosing stones and working on a design.
The business now carries my name: Laura B. Smith Jewelry. Some of my favorite projects have begun with a client telling me why a piece matters. Recently, I designed a statement necklace for a woman traveling to Italy and the Amalfi Coast. A husband asked for something to honor 45 years of building a life together. Another client planned a week of Valentine’s gifts, with one to open each day. I’ve also made cufflinks for a groom and necklaces and earrings for bridesmaids.
Other requests begin with a favorite color, an upcoming trip, or a wish to show pride in an alma mater. I enjoy hearing what someone has in mind and making a piece that feels personal.
I hope you’ll wear your pieces often—for a celebration, on vacation, to a football game, or on an ordinary day. My grandmothers’ jewelry meant something because they wore it and had stories to tell about it. I hope the pieces I make become part of your life, too.
Laura
